raq Crisis Threatens the World: Garaudi
TEHRAN TIMES POLITICAL DESK
TEHRAN -- Adventures of the United States in the current Iraq crisis threaten the Middle East region and the entire world, said the world-renowned French author and journalist Roger Garaudi in an interview with IRNA in Paris yesterday. Referring to belligerent U.S. policy on Iraq, "which is determined by political and economic lobbies in that country, the U.S. is trying to impose its culture on the world through militarism." Elsewhere in his interview, he termed U.S. foreign policy as being "fatal for the world, because inciting war in the Middle East will have short- and long-term negative impacts on the region."In the short run, one can expect many casualties among any U.S. forces in Iraq, he added.
If the U.S. operations are to be conducted for the purpose of toppling Saddam Hussein, "then it cannot be accomplished just by aerial bombing, and deployment of the ground forces will be necessary as well," Garaudi stressed.
According to Garaudi, Americans like to solve their deep economic conundrum by inciting another war and through the domination of the oil resources of the region.
He also called on the regional countries to impose a multilateral embargo on American goods and to refuse to sell oil to that country in a bid to challenge belligerent U.S. policies in the region.
