SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13: DON’T STEAL OUR FACES! GIVE US BACK OUR FACES!

Anti-Surveillance Camera Shinjuku Action

No more privacy violations by JR East!
JR East is using the Olympics as an excuse to install facial authentication surveillance cameras at stations and trains within its service area. When completed, the network of nearly 40,000 surveillance cameras will be connected to a database that will make it possible to monitor our daily movements.

Biometrics, such as facial authentication, is the most important privacy data that we will never be able to change. The one-sided collection of biometric data is a violation of our right to privacy. Furthermore, JR East is refusing to disclose how the facial data collected at stations and on board trains is used and what kind of system is in place.

We will take action to protest against the installation of face authentication surveillance cameras by JR East as follows. We hope many of you will join us.

Date: Saturday, November 13
2:00 p.m. Gather at the south exit of Shinjuku Station for standing and appeal.

Surveillance camera survey will be conducted from around 3:00 p.m.
