We saw what happened to public "consciousness" after the 1972 oil
crisis -- it reverted to genetic algorithims. Unless the "moneyed class"
decides to use y2k as an opportunity to change the social system,
there won't be any change in public "consciousness".
You have to remember that those of us who engage in these pretentious
conversations are not typical animals. Some 90 million Americans read
below the 7th grade level. A billion people on the planet can't even sign
their own names.
I don't want to give my next newsletter away before it is actually
published, but America is not -- nor was it ever intended to be -- a
"government by the people".
Our Founding Fathers believed -- correctly I think -- that the "moneyed
class" was more "rational" (calculating) than the public at large. And so,
American government was crafted to give the illusion of "government by
the people" while reserving governance for the moneyed class.
Economists are employed to provide a protective umbrella of elaborate
lies. Their only function is to hide the political nature of the economy.
I think the basic idea is correct, but the criteria is wrong for these
times. Instead of the rich, scientists and religious leaders should
chart the course of our next society.
