3 August 2004： プレスビテリアン教会がイスラエル向けの投資撤退を決議 |
| 今年春の「占領に反対する芸術家」東京展で来日したパレスチナ出身の美術家サミア・ハラビー（Samia Halaby）から、次のようなニュースとメール支援の要請が来ていますので、ご協力ください。 アメリカのプレスビテリアン〔長老派）教会がイスラエルはアパルトヘイト国家であると宣言し、イスラエル関連の投資を中止する決議を行なったそうです。 IAP NEWSが伝えるところでは、この決議は米プレスビテリアン教会第２１６回大会で７月の第一週に行なわれ、 賛成431-反対62という圧倒的多数で可決された模様です。 具体的には、教会が所有している株式のうち、イスラエルと芳しくない取引のある企業のものを売却するということらしく、まっさきに名前が挙がっているのがパレスチナ人の家屋破壊に用いられているブルドーザーを供給しているキャタピラー社です（下のプレスリリースをご覧ください）。 ここまでは、とってもいいニュース！ でも、シオニストの反発は大きく、手紙、電話、ファックス、emailなどをつかった抗議が教会がわに殺到しているらしい。 そこで、プレスビテリアン教会宛てに、支援のメッセージを送ってくださいという要請です。 たった一行、"Thank you for your decision to divest from Israel." （イスラエルへの投資撤退決議に感謝）と書いてメールするだけでも十分に有効です。下のアドレスで、直接プレスビテリアン教会大会副議長にとどきます。 http://www.pcusa.org/form2mail/form2mail.jsp?f2name=Clifton+Kirkpatrick&subject=email+directory ****************************************** PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF THE USA The Presbyterian Center in Louisville continued to be inundated with letters this week protesting the 216th General Assembly's decision July 2 to initiate a process of selective, phased divestment from multinational corporations doing business in Israel. Jewish leaders and groups continued to criticize the Presbyterian Church (USA) for taking actions it says are anti-Israel and anti-Semitic and which ignore the violence perpetrated by Palestinians in the region. Interfaith relations officer Jay Rock of the Worldwide Ministries Division spent much of the week in New York, conferring with various Jewish groups. Victor Makari, area coordinator for the Middle East, also spent much of the week explaining the PC(USA)'s position on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the actions taken by the General Assembly. Meanwhile, the Rev. Bill Somplatsky-Jarman, coordinator for Mission Responsibility Through Investment, began the painstaking work of researching PC(USA) policy on the Middle East and various corporate ties between multinational corporations and the Israeli government in order to prepare the specific divestment strategy called for by the Assembly. He said the divestment process, which usually involves dialogue with offending companies before any stock-selling occurs, will probably initially focus on Caterpillar, the machinery giant that sells bulldozers to the Israeli Defense Forces. That process will be developed at a meeting of MRTI in New York in early November. |

| 昨年秋、サイードが亡くなったすぐ後にコロンビア大学で催されたメモリアルの様子がインターネットビデオで観られるようになっています。 → ここ いろいろな人のスピーチが並んでいるのですが、なかでも娘さん（ナジュラ）、息子さん（ワディー）、主治医のカンティ・ライ（最後はお友達になってしまったらしい）、教え子で同僚のガウリ・ヴィスワナタン（Masks ofConquest を書いた人）、友人としてのバネッサ・レッドグレーブ（サイードがファンであることは気が付いていましたが、これもまたお友達になってしまったようです）などが語るエピソードが、それぞれにとても面白いです。どれもみな面白いエピソードを含んでいて一見に値するので、ぜひごらんください。バレンボイムの欄もあるのですが、残念ながらリンクづけが間違っているらしく、別の人のスピーチが出てきます。 |
