{"id":223,"date":"2021-07-09T10:24:13","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T01:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alt-movements.org\/no_more_capitalism\/shiminren-blog\/?page_id=223"},"modified":"2021-07-09T10:24:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T01:24:13","slug":"press-release_statement_against_biometrics_olympics_en","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jca.apc.org\/shiminren\/press-release_statement_against_biometrics_olympics_en\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release:Joint Statement: Call for an immediate halt to the use of biometric technology in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Press Release <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span lang=\"en-US\">July 9, 2021 <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Contact: Toshimaru Ogura <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Citizens Liaison Committee Against Wiretapping Law <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span lang=\"en-US\">070-5553-5495 <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span lang=\"en-US\">hantocho-shiminren@tuta.io <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"cjk\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Joint Statement: Call for an immediate halt to the use of biometric technology in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The undersigned organizations have issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt-movements.org\/no_more_capitalism\/shiminren-blog\/statement_against_biometrics_olympics_en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint statement<\/a> calling for a complete halt to the use of biometric technology in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Calling organizations: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">2020 \u201cOlympic Disaster\u201d Warning Liaison Group \/ JCA-NET \/ Asia-Japan Women\u2019s Resource Center \/ Citizens Liaison Committee Against Wiretapping Law \/ Consumers Union of Japan \/ Network Against Japan Arms Trade<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The main demands are as follows<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The Organizing Committee must cease all use of biometric technology.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The sponsors must also stop using biometric technology in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">The Japanese government must respect the fundamental human rights and the right to privacy guaranteed in the Constitution and international laws, and stop its policies and financial expenditures to promote the use of biometric technology in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">All organizations involved in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, both public and private, should immediately dispose of any biometric data they have acquired.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">We demand that police and other investigative and law enforcement agencies dispose of their biometric equipment and stop using biometric technology.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">For more details, please refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt-movements.org\/no_more_capitalism\/shiminren-blog\/statement_against_biometrics_olympics_en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the text of the statement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The issue of the widespread use of biometric technology in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics does not seem to have received much attention in Japan. This statement introduces the fact that a drastic review of the use of biometric technology is underway in many countries around the world, and once again raises the alarm about the serious problems caused by the use of biometric technology, and calls for its discontinuation.
