The Institute for Global Communications is a non-profit organization providing nationwide and international online services to the non-profit community. IGC's Networks - PeaceNet, EcoNet, WomensNet, ConflictNet and LaborNet - comprise a major computer communications system dedicated to environmental preservation, human rights, sustainable development, peace and social justice. The IGC networks currently serve more than 12,000 subscribers in the United States with a wide range of computer networking services. Through partners in 18 other countries, an additional 20,000 individuals and organizations in 130 countries are served. IGC also undertakes a variety of international and domestic networking projects.
Among IGC's projects are: the delivery of third-world news sources, the support of United Nations projects, dissemination of human rights information, and support of organizations representing indigenous peoples. IGC has affiliate networks in Australia, Canada, Brazil, Nicaragua, England, Sweden, Bolivia, Ecuador, Russia, Ukraine, Uruguay, Mexico, Slovenia, and Germany.
IGC has a one-year internship position open in the network operations group. The ideal candidate would be interested in permanent employment with IGC. The network operations group is a small team that maintains and develops IGC's online service, develops new tools, works "on call" to solve emergencies, provides service to our international partners, and plans for improvement and expansion of our service. In particular, we seek a person with enthusiasm for system administration under UNIX, and who is interested in learning more.
