We, the executive committee of our Sensouten, holds the
exhibition in Tokyo every summer before or after August
15. The first Sensouten was held by the executive committee
consisted of 25 organizations and 6 persons from various
circles in 1980. Sensouten has been held every year since
then.
At that time, those who have never experienced the
hardships of the war accounted for more than half the
population. Weathering of the memories of the war
caused the movement towards the revival of the militarism.
In 1978, the Japanese government agreed to give sympathy
budget to the U.S. army in Japan, and the Cabinet council
agreed to the guide of the joint efforts for the Japan-United
States Security Defense (the former Guideline). In 1980,
the second attack to the high school textbooks (especially
on the Japanese history) was started by the people from
the politics, business circles and right wings. They
strengthened the official approving system to the textbooks
on Japanese history, and forced the authors to change the
word "invasion" to "advance".
Those who try to hand down the memories of their
hardships in wartime to the next generation have started
publishing books and arranging the exhibitions. Around this
time, a variety of other exhibitions started all over the
country. Kuusyuuten (the exhibition on air raid), Anne's Diary
Exhibition and Himeyuri (a red star lily) Girls Unit in Okinawa
Exhibition are all aiming at establishing the peace and hand it
down to the next generation. Heiwa-no-tameno-Sensouten
is one of these exhibitions, and there are several other
sensoutens besides in Tokyo. Osaka, Kyoto, Wakayama,
Saitama and more other cities have their own sensoutens.
Our Sensouten committee is managed by volunteers and
donations.
Our Sensouten is made mainly by the paneled pictures.
The topic and how to organize the exhibition are decided
through the careful discussion by the committee members.
Here is the brief sketch of the site.
1st section displays the actual condition of the Japanese
invasive war.
2nd section introduces the insufficient way of Japanese
government on the matter of questioning the war
responsibility and the postwar compensation.
3rd section helps you learn how we can establish the peace,
discussing the problem of revising the present Japanese
constitution or the Japan-United States Security Treaty.
Special section is originally established when there is an
important issue to be discussed.
High school students section helps you see the war through
the eyes of the younger generation.
@There are also the sections of the goods in wartime, the
mementos of the dead, the testimonies
of the war witnesses and showing the videos.
