This program works with and benefits needy children of Filipino OCWs (overseas contract workers)and consists of two child development centers, in Barrio Magsaysay, Tondo, Manila and in Minahan Main, Malanday, Marikina and other child-focused activities and services like medical and dental missions and summer camps. The first batch of 63 pre-school children just graduated from the Tondo Center last month while the Marikina Center shall open in June. This program was originally conceptualized by the organization's Women's Commission when it launched gender-focused trainings for our women members in 1995-96. Thus, it also works with and benefits our women members and other women residents of the community, especially the single mothers and abandoned women. We were able to tap some assistance from overseas Filipinos and religious organizations but these will not be enough to cover all the children's basic care and learning needs. Thus, we turn to you for additional help, be it in cash or in kind. Specifically, children's books, educational toys, children's tapes, musical instruments, school and art supplies, throw pillows, kitchenware for the playhouse, brand new or those no longer being used, are urgently needed.
