日本政府は、東ティモール暫定統治機構（ＵＮＴＡＥＴ）と国連開発計画（ＵＮ
ＤＰ）に2750万ドルの援助を決めた。
　内訳は１）ディリ水道供給システムの整備、２）ディリとアイナロ、カサを結
ぶ道路の修復、３）マナトゥトゥの灌漑、４）ディリ港整備、５）ディリと他県
を結ぶ送電経路、となっている。

Japan grants $27.5 mil. to E.  Timor  to fix infrastructure

Japan gave $27.5 million in development funds to East  Timor  on Friday to 
cover infrastructure repairs and improvements in the devastated territory, 
the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta said.

'Six project funding agreements worth $27.5 million were signed today 
between the government of Japan, U.N. Transitional Administration in 
East  Timor (UNTAET) and the U.N. Development Program (UNDP),' a statement 
made available to Kyodo News said.

The projects consist of repairs and improvements to the Dili water-supply 
system, the road linking Dili, Ainaro and Cassa, an irrigation system in 
Manatutu, facilities in Dili's port and power stations and distribution 
networks in Dili and 13 rural areas, it said.

'This is the largest contribution made so far for the rehabilitation of 
infrastructure in East  Timor, ' the statement said.

The agreement was signed by Koji Tsuruoka, an official from the Japanese 
Embassy in Jakarta, Sergio Vieira de Mello of UNTAET and Finn Reske-Nielsen 
>from the UNDP in the presence of East Timorese independence leader Joao 
Carrascalao, it said.

The Japanese cabinet endorsed the release of funds only hours after the 
signing in Jakarta, it said.
