A Trout-fishing Contest was held on March 26. While it was drizzling, it took place. Suzuki-san took us to the riverside. We were amazed to see that some people already caught 30 trout though 30 minutes had passed since the start. Then, we tried to interview them. First, we couldn't ask them easily because this was the first experience. But, after we said one word, they were very kind and talked a lot.
"Excuse me, where are you from?"
"We are from Saitama Prefecture. We come here every year."
"How is the fishing this year?"
"There are less people than usual. So we have caught a lot of trout."
Next, we interviewed a family.
"Where are you from"
"We are from Tokyo. This is the third time. My son is also challenging the fishing because there are less people".
Then, we asked the boy.
"Is this your first time? Have you caught a lot?"
"Fishing is not my first experience, but trout-fishing is my first try, but I am doing well".
They stayed at a cottage, "Kouyouso." Next, we asked a man who were fishing in the river.
"We are fishing a lot. What are you using for a bait?"
"Well, these are ...., salmon roe or grape worm."
He was the man who caught 30 trout in 30 minutes. One trout per minute! Amazing!!
Last, we interviewed a person in Tourist Information.
"Participants are less than usual, aren't you?"
"Yes, they are. The weather is not good, and the similar contests are being held in Higashiizu-machi and Yugachima-machi. People living near the town have gone there. Therefore, the number of the participants are a third of the average. However, people who came here can fish a lot, so they are lucky."
"Where did you buy the trout?"
"We bought them from a local fish farm (Kakishima Fish Farm in Neginohata) stocked the river with them. We didn't reduce the number of the trout in spite of less participants."
He explained to us with words that we could understand easily. We haven't experienced fishing so far, but as we were listening to their fishing story and looking at good fishing, we felt like trying.
After the interview, we went to a tent in an open space. We had a red-bean soup with rice cake and felt happy and warm as we had been shivering in a cold rain.
In a place next to the tent, fresh trout just caught from the river were grilled with soy source and salt and they smelt good. People who were eating the trout looked happy by saying:
"Very delicious!"
"Fresh-caught fish is the best!"
When we saw them, we need hardly say that we felt like eating. But we didn't have enough time, so it was very regrettable that we couldn't taste it.
Our town is not a big city, nor a large population. We are very pleased to see that lots of people are coming from far-away areas. In the future, we wish to increase this type of gathering.
