Dear Governor Ridge,
Although I am a Japanese citizen, not a resident of Pennsylvania, I feel compelled to write to you now. As you have already been informed, the PA Supreme Court denied Mumia Abu-Jamal's appeal for a new trial.
It is reported that you have promised to sign the death warrant of Mr.Jamal. I am deeply disappointed because you stated this despite the fact that there is substantial evidence that he is not guilty of murder. He was framed because of his political beliefs, activism and his race. His original trial was clearly biased. It was nowhere near justice.
Because I believe that you are not one of the politicians who cares more about one's own appearance and about political convenience than about the life of an innocent man, I urge you to reconsider your previous statement.
Millions of people around the world are following the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal and are demanding that he be released. Do not sign the death warrant!! In standing up for the life and rights of Mumia Abu-Jamal, you could be a positive example of an honorable elected official. I hope that this is what you do.
