The 10th Anniversary of the Solidarity Network with Migrants Japan
(SMJ)
The 6th SMJ Workshop in Tokyo
Looking back on the past 10 years and ahead to the next 10.

■When: June 9, Sat. and 10, Sun. 2007
■Where: Showa Women's University

SMJ is a networking organization of individuals and groups working
toward a multicultural society in Japan. Since its establishment in
1997, SMJ has organized national forums or workshops in different
areas for the purpose of analyzing the situation, discussing issues,
sharing information, and providing an opportunity for exchange.

In 2007, SMJ celebrates its 10th Anniversary. A group discussion with
a common theme is planned for the 6th SMJ Workshop, to look back on
the past 10 years regarding the situation of migrants, and look ahead
to the next 10 years. The theme is: “A multi-ethnic, multi-cultural
perspective on the current debate about accepting foreign workers: Our
choices”.

The government and the economic world are actively discussing the
acceptance of foreign workers. We question whether that discussion
will lead to the kind of multicultural and multiethnic society that we
want to promote. If not, what is the best way to realize such a
society? We will discuss these questions at the workshop.

A 10th Anniversary event and party are also held. We invite you to
attend this anniversary event as well. Hope to see you all there!
