、専門的なサイトでの検索をする必要はなくなったように思います。

で、humveeとは：
一般的な名称は、Hummerで、車幅が広く、車高が高い、４輪駆動のオフロード車。
軍隊仕様車がHumvee。

The Hummer was created in 1983 when the U.S. Army set a challange to
vehicle
manufacturers to invent a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle,
hence
the acronymn HMMWV or Humvee as it is called. In the end the Army chose
AM
General's model as the winner and signed a contract for 55,000 vehicles
to
be delivered over a 5 year period. Becoming well known in the Gulf
War, the
Humvee proved to be a highly reliable and dependable machine. With
a 16"
ground clearance when fully loaded, and full time four wheel drive
powered
by a 170 hp diesel powerplant (and now some 190 hp Turbos too), the
Humvee
manuvered through almost anything. It was designed to follow in the
tracks
of the M1 Abrams tank, and every other military vehicle in the field.
Many
of the specs for the Hummer's abilities, such as grade capabilities,
are
much lower than actual so soldiers wouldn't over do it.
