January 1999

The Millennium Century Date Change Problem

Company Contingency planning Report dated 8th January 1999

Suggested Administration Prior and After the 31st December 1999.

Although Y2K problem testing and solution projects have been
completed, there could be still some problems missed or caused be
human error. It is thought that the national problem will be about 5
to 15% a error ratio of unsolved problems and those small one caused
by human error. Although your company or organisasion may not have
any problems it is better to take some precautions.

Suggested Project and Plan.

1. Great effort should be taken to ensure that an accurate inventory
is prepare of all computerised business and operation equipment, this
should be made part of the Y2K auditing processes and checked by an
independent member of staff unrelated to the Y2K project team.

2. There should be an emergency list of electronic gateway clients or
service and software and hardware maintenance providers complete with
the up to date and correct Telephone numbers prepared for instant
access. All telephone communication with the members of this list
should checked within the last week prior to the Christmas or
Millennium celebration period.

3. All your maintenance and service provider should be contacted and
ask to provide a copy of there own documented Y2k contingency plan to
provide your company with good firm backup to resolve any Y2K
problems.

4. All your suppliers should be asked to provide you with their own
documented contingency plans. If a Electronic Data Interface is
involved ensure they inform you how you can help to monitor for Y2K
problems.

5. All your clients should be provided a copy of your Y2K
contingency plans, and if a Electronic Data Interface is involved
ensure they can help in monitoring for Y2K problems.

6. Office and any other computerised equipment that has passed the
Millennium Ready Benchmark that is left on over the Millennium
celebration holiday period should have the correct time keyed in on
the 1st January 2000 to ensure that no date retention problem can
upset operations. All embedded systems that may have this non date
retention will have electronic key board access. Ensure that you have
a Y2K team or member of staff carry out this work.

7. PC Servers and computers powered on 24 hour a day should either
use a time server (radio or Internet based) or if this is not
possible members of your Y2K contingency team should key in the
correct date.

8. PC and computer equipment that are powered off over the Millennium
celebrations holiday period could be switched on the 2nd January
2000 to have the date corrected if required. This would then ensure
that no problems can be made by your less IT Skilled Staff. Any data
achieving software problems can be navigated a round by an IT expert
or skilled member of staff. This process is lengthened by the amount
of computerised items on your inventory.

9. Business operation software applications that are online over the
Millennium celebration period should be monitor directly after the
1999 to 2000 rollover period and at regular intervals to ensure that
transactions are correctly processed, logs and data storage should be
regular checked. If there is any faults the system should be shut down
and the client or server gate provider should be contacted straight
away. Work should be start to eradicate the problem as soon as
possible, everyone that has interest in the normal service provided by
the software application should be. Informed of the estimated time,
when the system will be back on line (if possible) and a telephone
number to call for a progress report.

Notes: It is thought that good administration could insure that
financial losses and public safety problems can be kept to a bare
minimum each problem being quickly and effectively resolve. The 5 or
6 problems caused at the 1998 to 1999 rollover period, showed that
these problems where fixed within 24 hours or so. Visionaries IT
