resist
(OtherTake/ Points of View
(Agit
Prop'

September 2001

Debate and resist!

It's absolutely essential. And we encourage you to participate in the
discussion forum we've just opened (Agit Prop'). Debate what? The
recent attacks, obviously. We are already publishing reactions and
analyses to try to seek the causes of this violence and condemn it. Some
of these messages come from the USA - because there is "another voice of
America", one that also calls for international solidarity (Agit Prop').
Resist what? Conventional wisdom first of all that would impose one
vision of "good" and "bad" that is not ours. Resist violence whose
victims are so many women in the world, beginning with the Afghan women,
for whom women in France will march Saturday (Agenda). Resist silence,
because how can one accept that this suffering is denied, hidden? The
voices that rise against incest (OtherTake/ Points of View) and
political persecutions (Solidarity), against poverty, exclusion, and
sexist crimes (Agit Prop') must be heard. Is there hope for peace in a
world in which the rights of half the population are regularly flouted?
More than ever, feminism must be taken into account as a social movement
for its analyses and proposals must be heard. Together, let's raise the
debate.
