BEIJING+5 FACT SHEET - UPDATE # 6 (22 MAY 2000)
This Fact Sheet contains information regarding the Beijing+5 Process.
It is an effort to provide information as available. New or changed
information will appear in future editions. You are urged to share this
information with your fellow NGOs. We welcome other NGOs to contact us
with their e-mail address, fax number, and/or mailing address so that we
can add them to our contact list.

ACCREDITATION LETTERS

The United Nations/Division for the Advancement of Women (UN/DAW) began
faxing out the letters of accreditation around the 11th of May. We have
learned that some people are having trouble receiving these faxed
letters. Eligible NGOs who have not received their letter of
accreditation by Friday 19 May should contact UN/DAW IMMEDIATELY either
by faxing original registration with fax confirmation or via e-mail at
beijing5@un.org. This is also the case if names were incorrect or
misspelled.

All three representatives listed have been accredited and there will be
two transferable passes per organization.

CHANGE OF NAMES FOR ACCREDITED NGOs

If your organization has registered in good time and has received
confirmation but now needs to change the name of a representative, they
MUST notify the UN/Division for the Advancement of Women (UN/DAW) by end
of the business day (New York time) Wednesday 24 May. NO CHANGES WILL
BE ALLOWED AFTER THIS DATE.

Contact UN/DAW via fax at 1+212-963-3463 or via e-mail at
<beijing5@un.org>.

REGISTRATION FOR INTERSESSIONALS AND RESUMED PREPCOM
(for non-ECOSCO NGOs)

Non-ECOSOC NGOs who wish to attend the intersessionals from 24 May
through 26 May must register with UN/DAW by the end of the business day
(New York time) Wednesday 24 May.

Non-ECOSOC NGOs who wish to attend the resumed PrepCom from 29 May
through 2 June must register with UN/DAW by the end of the business day
(New York time) Monday 29 May.

Plans for the day include a look at the Beijing+5 Special Session in the
history of the Women's conferences, a presentation of the Alternative
Reports, an Intergenerational Round Table and a brief discussion and Q&A
about the upcoming week at the UN.

NGO MEDIA CENTRE

The NGO Media Centre will operate from the 2nd floor of the Church
Center and from the US Custom House. More details about the Media
Centre guidelines will be sent to NGOs shortly.

NGO PLENARY SPEAKER SLOTS

The international NGO Coordinating Committee for Beijing+5, with the
Conference of NGOs (CONGO) acting as secretariat, has been asked by the
UN Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) to handle NGO requests to
speak during the Plenary Session of the UN General Assembly Special
Session for Women 2000. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FINAL DECISION WITH
RESPECT TO NGO SPEAKERS FOR THE PLENARY RESTS WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

More details about the speaker slots has been sent to NGOs in a separate
e-mail.
